The saga continues. In this installment of the long-running, much-loved horror soap opera, Barnabas and Julia Hoffman return to the Collinwood mansion in 1995, only to find it in ruins. The mystery is compounded when they find out that Carolyn Stoddard and Quentin Collins have gone quite mad, and Barnabas realizes that Dr. Hoffman is under the control of Gerald Stiles's ghost. Barnabas must prove that the vampire marks on Maggie Evans's neck are not his own, while parallel times and ancestral spirits make this just another spooky day for the inhabitants of the Collinwood estate.

In the strange and terrifying world of 1970 parallel time, Angelique the witch torments Maggie Collins with her supernatural powers, causing Maggie to fear her husband Quentin. Angelique reveals her true identity to her father, Timothy Stokes, and warns housekeeper Julia Hoffman that the vampire Barnabas Collins must be destroyed.

After his secret is discovered, John Yaeger, the evil alter-ego of scientist Cyrus Longworth, kidnaps Maggie. Barnabas returns to Collinwood in regular time to notify Dr. Julia Hoffman of the perils occuring in parallel time, where her counterpart discovers Barnabas's coffin and makes plans to stake him.

Longing to discover who she is, Barnabas initiates an experiment to revive the body of the mysterious and beautiful Roxanne Drew, with whom he becomes obsessed. After a series of deaths, a crazed Stokes sets fire to Collinwood.

Unfolding on the Collins estate in Massachusetts, the long-running series began with the arrival of Victoria Winters, a young governess who has come in search of her origins. What follows is the discovery of a family legacy that involves all manner of witches, vampires, werewolves, and other such beings, as well as familial drama and intrigue in the manner of more traditional soaps. In this volume, Cyrus Long pulls a Dr. Jekyll move and ingests one of his own potions, emerging as the evil John Yaeger. Daniel Collins believes his mother, the witch Angelique, is coming back, and Sabrina Stuart calls a seance at Collinswood to get in touch with Angelique's spirit. Meanwhile, Angelique's twin sister, Alexis, turns up unexpectedly, and Dameon Edwards's ghost takes up residence in the mansion.
